Background
This project
offers an opportunity to demonstrate your learning progress through
comprehensive data review and recommendations on practice. Using all of the
data you have collected from your labs, and all of the information you have
learned from the text, lectures and labs, extract and summarize all of the data
from your lab reports. Compare the data with reference standards (e.g., Dietary
Reference Intakes, Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Physical Activity
Guidelines for Americans) corresponding to your age and sex and determine if
you are already in a healthy range, or if you need to make adjustments. Please
pretend you are healthy and uninjured. If you are dealing with medical issues,
you do not need to make this assignment more challenging by discussing your
treatment/recovery.
Assignment
Choose if you
would like to pretend that you are training for an endurance sport event, such
as a 26.2 mile running marathon, or a bike trip cross country in 6 months from
now.
The following
content is expected to be addressed in your written summary:
1. Thinking about
your body composition, BMR/RMR, target heart rate, bone density and nutrition
profile, what do you expect would happen to your labs as you proceed with the
training?
2. Using what you
have learned from this semester, write a complete description of how you would
go about your training and nutrition. What are your fitness and dietary
recommendations? How often will you progress and reassess your work?
a) Overall review:
Start with an overall review on your lifestyle, health and nutrition literacy,
and your fitness and nutritional needs. What other information is relevant?
b) Choose 2 – 3
areas of your diet that need to be addressed to support your training and
explain them in detail.
c) Fitness
assessment: Consider if any of the assessments practiced in our lab sessions
can be used to help evaluate your fitness status and to design a suitable
eating plan. You can recommend one or multiple assessments. Please discuss the
reason(s) for your recommendation and how you will use the assessment results.
d) Educational
materials: Mention the educational information you plan to use to help you
train and support your nutrition. Include a list of the materials and resources
(e.g., articles, books, credible websites). You may also include screenshot(s)
of the educational materials. If you have the materials on hand but they are
not available online, you can include scanned image(s) or pictures of the
materials.
3. The written summary should contain all the
content mentioned above. You can use bullet points to organize your summary.
4. When evaluating
your intake and developing your recommendations, you are
encouraged to use
additional books, peer-reviewed articles, websites, and other
references (beyond
the required textbook). The references should be reliable and valid.
Please make sure
you reference ALL material that is not your original work. Failure to do
this may be a
violation of the school’s policy on plagiarism and may result in failure of
the paper or the
course. You must include your list of references in the written
summary or points
will be deducted. All reference articles and websites should be listed
